DG calls for increased investment on cotton projects, welcomes Afreximbank pledge
At a Partners Conference on cotton on 27 July, Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala urged donor agencies to mobilise resources in support of cotton projects in least-developed countries (LDCs), including the Cotton-4 countries (Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad and Mali). At a "Call for Action" signing ceremony later in the day, she welcomed a pledge from the African Export and Import Bank (Afreximbank) to provide up to USD 300,000 as grant-matching funds to support the preparation of cotton value chain development projects in African countries from 2023 to 2024.

In her opening remarks, Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala highlighted the platform's "fantastic vision to drive economic growth and sustainability in emerging markets by empowering businesses and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) with large scale financial capital, skills and critical resources."

Twenty-five participants from developing and least-developed countries attended the sixth edition of the WTO Advanced Course on Economic Analysis of Trade Policy in Geneva from 21 to 29 July 2022. After a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this unique training activity was organized to help policy analysts and researchers become familiar with standard and more advanced trade policy analysis tools.

The WTO issued today (29 July) the 2022 edition of "World Tariff Profiles", which provides comprehensive information on the tariffs and non-tariff measures imposed by over 170 countries and customs territories. The report was jointly prepared with the International Trade Centre and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
